Coldplay is a well known British rock band that originated in 1998 after undergoing several name changes. Coldplay is one of the most popular alternative rock bands to this day.

Upon loading the Coldplay website, it is clear that the website has been influenced heavily by the alternate genre. There are plenty of strange symbols and a few strange illustrations scattered across the page. This represents the alternate genre as strange symbols are considered unorthodox to the traditional norms of society.When hovering over these drawings/pictures, they move, encouraging the user to click on them. Once clicked, you are linked to either a youtube video of a poster of the album.These little "easter eggs" make the website more fun and interactive. There is a menu to the side which links to new information within the page, allowing the audience to explore the website further and gather infomation
The album logo is directly in the centre of the screen, thus drawing attention to it and advertising the new album. When clicking the logo, you are linked to an amazon page for the CD version of the album. The colour scheme of the whole website is bright and multicoloured, which also proves the website to be alternative rock as rock is usually linked with dark metallic fonts, not bright and colourful fonts. However, this colour scheme stands out against the dark grey background, drawing attention to the main title and the the other colourful links.
Challenges
Coldplay's website is very conventional and has a wide variety of features that can also be found on many other websites, however, Coldplay's website offers one feature that I haven't seen on other websites. Coldplay has a timeline of their music career with dates back to when the band was first initiated. This feature is unusual but effective when drawing in its audience because it allows the user to interact with the band and follow their journey through fame and stardom. The timeline also allows users to add photos from shows they have attended. This increases user interaction and also allows viewers who haven't attended the Coldplay concert to see what they are missing out on, and indirectly makes them want to purchase tickets for the next show.
